Is any of the Kenne Bell data available on the internet or in catalogs? We've devoted considerable space on our website to educate enthusiasts about all phases of supercharging and the related products. Check out our "Tech Info" section. There is a sign on our dyno that reads "One of the real dangers in running tests is you're bound to get data." Over the years, we've compiled tons of data. Some of the data we record during 0-60, 1/4 mile and dyno runs are acceleration, mass air flow, supercharger temperature (inlet and outlet), air fuel ratio, HP, torque, ignition timing, fuel injector pulse width, knock, fuel temperature and pressure, exhaust back pressure, inlet losses, supercharger parasitic losses - and, the two most important, engine rpm and supercharger boost.
If the Kenne Bell kits make all this boost in the low and mid range, will the boost drop off at high rpm? No. Boost at high rpm is always at least the advertised kit boost rating. An efficient positive displacement supercharger will maintain boost throughout the rpm band..
How much horsepower does the Kenne Bell kits make? This is a very important and the #1 most frequently asked question. It is also the only question we like to answer with a question. At what rpm? Your engine "sees" or has to operate through a wide rpm band that ranges from 2000-6000. Rarely is the question applicable unless you're engaged in a peak HP dyno contest. As the old saying goes, "you can't race a dyno." If two supercharger kits make about the same peak horsepower at a given boost, the Kenne Bell makes more HP at all the other rpm points, the reason for selecting the Kenne Bell is obvious. "Peak" HP numbers are the most commonly quoted. Our kits increase HP anywhere from 100-600HP with only the supercharger kit. Check out the particular kit and application before deciding.
How long does it take to install a Kenne Bell kit? Around 6-10 hours. Plan on a complete day or weekend. Some kits take up to 15 hours.
Can I install it myself? Yes, if you're mechanically inclined. Only ordinary hand tools are required. Kenne Bell Installation Manuals are the best in the industry. Complete and detailed with a photo illustration for each step.
Is there any ignition timing retard necessary? Not unless you've added "other" products that require special tuning, adjustments or modifications. Many of our kits include special re-mapped ignition curves that retard timing in critical areas. Other retard may be knock sensor activated to protect the engine.
Do Kenne Bell kits include a chip or module to re-calibrate the OEM system? Most of our kits include a re-calibration (chip, module or Flash Tuner). Tuner kits do not and we no longer offer chips for the '86-'93 and '94-'95 5.0 Mustang.
Does my automatic transmission need to be modified
or upgraded? The Kenne Bell trans calibration included in the kits is all that's needed to firm up shifts.
